About the artist
An abundant, diverse,
essentially modern body of work.
Ignacio Burgos (Madrid, 1968) trained at the Complutense University of Madrid (1986–1991) and at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin (1991–1993). He lived and worked in New York between 1994 and 1998, in Paris as a Cité Internationale des Arts resident in 2000, and between Madrid and Moscow from 2011 to 2013.
His painting — abundant, diverse, and essentially modern — is rooted in the great spiritual current of Spanish painting: from Zurbarán to Goya, from El Greco to Picasso. He has also worked in photography, glass sculpture, and metal.
His work is held in public collections including the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the «la Caixa» Foundation, and the Caja Galicia Foundation.
